Morgan moved to the table at daycare week before last. So instead of sitting in a ‘feeding chair,’ where she’s strapped in, she actually sits at a little low table in a little low chair. The chair is pulled up close to the table to help avoid toppling out, but there are no straps or anything.
Along with this move to the table, they’re moving her toward finger foods while at daycare. The first week she started with Puffs (which we’ve been feeding her at home and she loves) and little torn up pieces of bread. The second week (last week) she moved on to having multiple courses in her meal. So they were still feeding her the pureed stuff we were bringing in, but they would feed her both a vegetable and a fruit (as well as the bread/Puffs) in a single meal. This week they’ve moved on to feeding her the cooked veggies from the menu. And today they told us to quit bringing in the purees. She’s no longer interested. Apparently today she ate all her broccoli. Jim and I have been trying to get her interested in green beans, peas, corn, and lima beans at home to no avail. Maybe we’ll have to swing by at lunch and see what their system looks like…
Unbelievable. She sits in at a little table in a little chair and feeds herself. I remember when we started daycare. The kids doing that seemed so big. And the moms seemed so experienced.

Notice how when she even sees the toothbrush she opens wide and dives for it. Good girl.

She loves thumping on the table. She’ll easily do that for 5-10 minutes without becoming bored.
This action-packed video also shows her sitting down from standing, deciding to stand again, then deciding to sit back down and crawl.

This was one of her favorite games a couple months ago but we never got great video of it. She’s easily entertained by it for at least twice as long as this video…

Nothing noteworthy, it’s just been a couple weeks and I’m sure she looks more different than I realize.
BTW — she’s up to 8 teeth.

On the way home from work today Jim and I were waving at Morgan. And she waved back. Not once, but three times. I thought I had seen her do it before (wave back) but couldn’t get her to repeat the action so was never sure. Three observations indicates a trend though. I claim she waves.

We were struggling to keep Morgan in the infant tub in the kitchen sink during the last 2 or 3 baths. She kept grabbing at various things trying to pull herself out. And she kept trying to chew on the faucet. So on to the actual bathtub…
We are using the Elmo non-skid mat she got from Grandma Wetzel for Christmas. The first time in the tub she kept trying to dive face first into the water. It took me a few minutes to catch on, but I think she was trying to get the Elmos into her mouth. She couldn’t lift them off the bottom of the tub so was trying to eat them off the ground (which was under 2-3 inches of water). She seemed less interested in the Elmos during the second bath, so we’ll see what happens in the future.
She is a super-sport in the tub. She doesn’t freak out, even if the water is running. Quite to the contrary, she is very interested in it. And she’ll sit or stand in the water quite happily, which is fantastic.
Her coordination is improving so much. She’ll reach out with one hand and snatch a toy floating in the water, pulling it into her mouth immediately.

Last night, for the first time, she was standing in her crib when I went to get her. And Annabel called me from daycare to tell me she pulled herself up to the low-rail and was standing without assistance. Yesterday after pulling herself up on the crib (from the outside), she actually maneuvered her way down the crib a bit. Not quite cruising from couch to coffee table and back again, but working on it!

Morgan spent (by far, accidentally) her longest time away from her parents this weekend.
She was staying with grandparents Wetzel for 48 hours while Molly and I went to Madison for the weekend to meet up with some friends. Multiple coincidental flight complications delayed our return by about 24 hours, leaving the Wetzels with 50% more babysitting than they had bargained for.
Meanwhile, while Molly and I were stuck in a hotel in Cincinnati, Molly’s brother and sister-in-law (Andy & Angie) had their first child — a daughter, Caroline. So, with the delay and forced extra day off work, Molly and I were in Richmond today so we were all able to stop by and see the new parents and Morgan’s cousin.
