Transitioning to the Two’s Room
Next week Morgan starts her transition to the Toddler Two’s room at daycare. They do a lot more Montessori in the Two’s room. They have potties and work on toilet training. They quit using a bib (and use open cups). Apparently they are going to intentionally(!) teach Morgan how to take her diaper off. They call it a ‘self-help’ skill. I call it a recipe for trouble. But we’ll see.
Ms. Tee (the lead teacher in the One’s room) met with us and talked with Ms. Cheryl (the lead teacher in the Two’s room) about Morgan. Ms Tee said she has really been coming into her own since becoming the oldest kid in the classroom. She has started talking a lot more (and louder). Apparently she is a huge helper. After eating, she’ll pick up her plate and cup and carry them over to the bin. She then comes back around and waits for the other younger kids, the ones who can’t walk yet, to finish their meals so she can clear their plates too. Sometimes she jumps the gun a bit and Ms. Tee has to tell her to give them back their milk or whatever. And when Ms. Tee is sweeping up, Morgan just stands their waiting to help her move the tables and chairs back into place. Ms. Tee tries to encourage her to go play with the other kids, but no luck.
Ms. Tee also said she was stubborn. She has gotten very hard to distract/redirect and you really have to be on your toes and stick with her if you want her to stop doing something.
She’s getting very involved in singing and answering questions in the circle. She is big on counting and loves to help with ABCs. Tonight when she was looking at the Curious George book (as she absolutely loves to do), she named everything on the page. George! Bug! Kite! ABCs! (letters/writing) I didn’t even know she knew the word ‘bug.’
She still is a super light sleeper. They have left her right next to the sound machine in the One’s room and even then, Ms. Parwin usually has to spend the last 40 minutes or so sitting next to her, as she has woken up.
Ms. Tee definitely said she was ready to go though. She’s gotten all she can out of the One’s room and it is time to move onward and upward.
I absolutely cannot believe she is in the Two’s room next week!
