This is the most shocking leap in development we’ve seen to date, so thought it worth a post.
It’s clearly not quite reading, but instead some sort of picture/word-triggered memorization and recital. But, she is 3. And she spontaneously did this one day, having never before read along for more than a page, so we were quite surprised when it just kept going and going.
Oh, and one more thing… this is a library book that she checked out two weekends earlier; she’s seen it maybe 15 times.
Warning — much longer than usual, about 7.5 minutes.

Morgan brought home a pile of new work from school the other day. She continues to do really well with her addition. They’ve also moved on to subtraction (she’s been doing this for a while now, I just don’t think we’ve mentioned it here). And, she’s been improving on her writing. She brought home a worksheet where she copied “Morgan Dahl” and “My baby sister is Erin.” She also brought home a worksheet where she would trace and then also write separately a bunch of 3 letter words (set, wet, pot, hot, etc.) Pretty cool!

Morgan joined Alexandria Little League (her first outside-of-school organized activity) this year, and had her first game Saturday. They start 3-4 year olds on kickball to learn the fundamentals.

Morgan’s teachers report that she’s a bit of a math whiz at school, so we put her to the test… as usual, she never performs quite as well for the video as when the camera isn’t running, but it’s a decent representation of what she’s doing.

Morgan’s first successful visit to Santa since 6 months old, at her school’s Christmas party, making cookies with Grandpa Wetzel, a full set of stuffed Dora and friends from Dahls, a new bike, getting the motherlode from Santa (the apple was her favorite), silly hats with cousin Caroline, and last but not least… the one thing she wanted most of all… an orange soccer ball.
Also, snuck into the Christmas post because of her somewhat humorous command of the song (despite a false apparent disinterest in this particular video) at the end. Those music lessons are starting to pay off!

Much as last year, the highlight at Cox Farms is still dancing with her friends…

As Molly hinted at a post or two back, Morgan got some new Spring toys. Here’s some video…

Nothing spectacular, or I would have posted it earlier, but a few videos from the last few months.

Discovered a more efficient way to pop bubbles (Jan. 15)
Closing eyes is a new discovery? (Feb. 27)
Programming note — I’ve updated the video technology on the site to remove the dependency on Flash, so it should now work on iPads, iPhones, etc…
